After complaints about the removal of trees from the Kampen Golf Course near the Celery Bog, Purdue is planning to work with those who oppose the tree cutting.

Operations Director Devon Brouse says many of the trees cut down were dead due to the Army Corp’s (Core’s) decision to raise the water levels for the Lindberg Road project.

Brouse says a wetland specialist is helping with the new plans for the golf course, which will be shared with concerned parties.

Plans call for planting a variety of grasses along the perimeter between the water and the course.

He believes these grasses will compliment this separation as well as the wildlife.

However, environmentalist group, Friends of Celery Bog is still collecting signatures on a petition for Purdue President France Córdova (CORE-duh-vuh).

Friends group member Joan Samuels says they are hopeful she will meet with them.

Friends of Celery Bog is circulating a petition asking the university to gather input prior to similar action in the future.

Spokesperson Joan Samuels thinks there are plenty of local experts who should be included in the process.

JS-Bog-3 :18 Q” make something good happen

Golf Course Operations Director Brouse says they weren’t consulted when the Army Corp (Core) raised the water level of the bog several years ago for the Lindberg Road project.

He says the higher levels caused many of the trees on the golf course and Purdue Research Foundation property to die.

Brouse says some grasses including dunes grasses will be planted along the perimeter of the water.

He says those will benefit the wildlife.
