Chainsaws Roar!

On 13 February 2008 those who believe the #13 is a back luck had their fears confirmed. That was the day the east side of the Celery Bog Nature Area was changed for the rest of the lives of anyone alive today over the age of 10 years old.
A Battleground, Indiana tree cutting business was hired, by Purdue Golf management, to clear-cut the entire property line, shared between Purdue’s Kampen Golf course and the Celery Bog Nature Area. Every standing tree, dead or alive, was cut to a stub of 2-3 feet above the ice at the time.
The cutting continued from the 13th through the 15th of February. Additional cutting was being finished up on 27 February.
Why had this happened? No one, outside of the Purdue Golf Course management, knew. Purdue Golf management had consulted with no one. None of the local professionals in landscape, natural resources, wildlife science or wetland ecology. Many of those same professionals are lettered and experienced professionals among the Purdue faculty and staff. Nor did they notify or allow opportunity to voice opinion upon the act, of the local citizens - the community - of West Lafayette and the Greater community area.
The damage was done. But many, many questions remain. Answers are being sought.
